Via San Gregorio Armeno è una stretta strada del centro storico di Napoli, celebre in tutto il mondo per le pittoresche botteghe dedicate all'arte del presepe.
La strada e le caratteristiche botteghe sono visitabili tutto l'anno e i maestri artigiani sono sempre all'opera, accelerando ancor di più il ritmo durante le festività natalizie (curiosando nelle bottege è possibile vederli al lavoro!).

La strada è incredibilmente suggestiva: dimenticate gli ordinati mercatini natalizi in legno con le musiche a tema di sottofondo. Siamo a Napoli, e qui l'ordine è un qualcosa di sconosciuto, ma, vi posso assicurare, che lasciarsi cullare dal fiume di persone che ogni anno si riversa in questa antica via, che congiunge via Tribunali (Decumano Maggiore), con Spaccanapoli (Decumano Inferiore), è un’esperienza imperdibile, una tappa obbligatoria per chiunque si trovi a Napoli sotto Natale.
The road is incredibly impressive: forget the tidy wooden Christmas markets with the music theme in the background. We are in Naples, and here the tidiness is unknown, but, I can assure you, that to face the river of people that crowd this ancient road, which connects via Tribunali (Decumano Maggiore), with Spaccanapoli (Decumano Inferiore), is an experience not to be missed, a must for anyone in Naples at Christmas.
Ad affolare la strada, infatti, non sono solo i turisti mossi dalla curiosità di scoprire questo luogo così magico e particolare, ma soprattutto i napoletani: la tradizione vuole che, ogni anno, venga aggiunto un nuovo componente al presepe, e a Napoli le tradizioni vanno rispettate, anche a costo di rimanere imbottigliati per ore in un traffico di pedoni!
To crowd this road, in fact, are not only the tourists moved by curiosity to discover this place so magical and special, but especially the Neapolitans: the tradition is that, every year, a new component have to be added to the crib, and in Naples traditions must be observed.
I piccoli negozietti che si affacciano sulla strada sono di un fascino unico: tamburelli, cornetti portafortuna, sughero e pastori, di tutte le forme e dimensioni, e dai prezzi più vari, occupano ogni centimetro di questi angusti locali.
E non aspettatevi di trovare solo i protagonisti della tradizione: oltre alle statuine in terracotta della Sacra Famiglia e dei Re Magi, sul presepe trovano spazio anche Eduardo De Filippo, Totò, Troisi, Maradona, politici e personaggi che hanno avuto particolare rilevanza nell'ultimo anno.

Molto bella, infine, è anche la Chiesa dedicata proprio a San Gregorio Armeno, che sorge a circa metà della storica strada.

Visitare questo luogo è, quindi, un'esperienza davvero particolare. Nel corso della passeggiata si respira non solo aria di feste e di Natale, ma anche la Napoli antica dei vicoli bui e stretti, densamente popolati, in cui si raccoglievano le famiglie più povere della città: questi vicoli erano i veri centri della miseria, in cui le epidemie, soprattutto quelle di colera,erano all'ordine del giorno. Molto emozionante...

To visit this place is, therefore, a truly special experience. During the walk you can breathe not only the air of holidays and Christmas, but also the ancient Naples with the dark and narrow alleys, densely populated, where lived the poorest families of the city: these alleys were the real center of misery, where epidemics, especially cholera, were very common. Really impressive...

Il modo più semplice per arrivare a San Gregorio Armeno è quello di raggiungere Piazza Dante con la linea 1 della metro, attraversare Via Port'Alba (la storica strada delle librerie), percorrere via San Sebastiano proseguendo fino a Via San Biagio dei Librai. Da qui, Via San Gregorio Armeno vi si aprirà sulla sinistra.

The easiest way to get to Via San Gregorio Armeno is to reach Piazza Dante with line 1 of the metro, to cross Via Port'Alba (the historical road of the libraries) and, then, Via San Sebastiano continuing to Via San Biagio dei Librai. From here, Via San Gregorio Armeno is on the left.
