'I BORGHI PIU' BELLI D'ITALIA': CORCIANO

Eccoci arrivati ad un nuovo appuntamento con la nostra rubrica “I borghi più belli d'Italia”.

Questa volta, come quella scorsa, vi parlerò di un borgo umbro che ho visitato durante il mio tour tra Umbria e Toscana: Corciano.

Here we are at a new appointment with our section "The most beautiful villages in Italy".
This time, like the last, I'll talk about an Umbrian village that I visited during my tour between Tuscany and Umbria: Corciano.

Corciano è un minuscolo borgo poco distante da Perugia. Se potete, vi consiglio di arrivarci con mezzi propri; se, invece, siete costretti a usare i mezzi pubblici, armatevi di pazienza ed ecco come fare: dalla stazione delle ferrovie dello stato di Perugia, prendete il bus G, fatevi lasciare ad Ellera, da qui dovete poi prendere il minibus X che vi porterà direttamente a destinazione(fate attenzione agli orari e calcolateli in modo da attendere il minor tempo possibile alle fermate, visto che il minibus per Corciano passa circa ogni due ore).

Una volta arrivati, in ogni caso, il tempo speso ne varrà la pena.

Corciano is a small village not far from Perugia. If you can, I recommend you get there by car; if, instead, you are forced to use public transport, be patient, and here's how to do: from the station of Perugia, take the bus G to Ellera, from here you have to take the minibus X, that will take you directly to your destination.

Il borgo ha origini romane, ma nella sua pianta sono molto più evidenti le tracce medievali.

Nel centro storico fortificato si aprono due porte di accesso: Porta Santa Maria, il cui torrione è il simbolo del borgo, e Porta San Francesco.

The village has Roman origins, but in its plant medieval traces are much more obvious.
In the fortified old town there are two gates: Porta Santa Maria, whose tower is the symbol of the village, and Porta San Francesco.

Le principali attrazioni sono tutte concentrate nel giro di pochi passi: andate a vedere la Chiesa di Santa Maria Assunta(la noterete dal campanile) dove si trova, tra gli altri, anche un capolavoro del Perugino; vale una breve visita anche il Museo della Casa contadina, dove potrete ammirare la ricostruzione di una tipica casa corcianese del periodo pre-industriale; infine, non dimenticate il Palazzo Municipale, con interni dalle bellissime sale affrescate.

Se siete amanti delle passeggiate, poi, appena fuori le mura, troverete il “sentiero dei mandorli”, un viale alberato dal quale potrete gustare il tipico paesaggio umbro.

The main attractions are all concentrated in a few steps: go to see the Church of Santa Maria Assunta where there is, among others, also a masterpiece of Perugino; don't miss, then, the House-Museum of Peasant, where you can see the reconstruction of a typical house of the pre-industrial period; finally, do not forget the Town Hall, with beautiful frescoed halls.
If you enjoy walking, then, just outside the walls, you will find the "path of the almond trees", a tree-lined avenue where you can taste the typical Umbrian landscape.

Io sono stata a Corciano durante il periodo natalizio e, ad arricchire queste atmosfere rarefatte di calma e semplicità, c'era una chicca in più: lungo tutte le piazze e i vicoli del piccolo borgo, uno sterminato presepe di pastori animava le strade.

I have been to Corciano during the Christmas season and, to enrich these rarefied atmosphere of calm and simplicity, there was a nice event: along all the streets and alleys of the small village, an endless nativity animated the streets.

Ogni vicolo in cui mi affacciavo, pullulava di questi giganteschi pastori in terracotta: a guardarli da lontano, si sarebbero detti sul serio bottegai e contadini impegnati nella loro vita di tutti i giorni!

Fabbri, fruttivendoli, macellai, lavandaie...nella piccola ricostruzione natalizia non mancava veramente nulla, tantomeno la capanna di Gesù Bambino ospitata in una delle piazze.

Girovagare a caso tra tutti questi pastori, in un soleggiato pomeriggio di fine anno, con le strade quasi deserte, è stata veramente un'esperienza da ricordare.

Nel borgo, poi, per gli amanti del buon cibo, non mancano le taverne di cucina tipica.

Every alley was full of these giant shepherds: watching them from afar, they seemed real shopkeepers and farmers engaged in their daily life!
Blacksmiths, greengrocers, butchers, washerwomen with also the hut of the Child Jesus housed in one of the squares.
Wandering at random between all these shepherds,during a sunny afternoon, with the streets almost deserted, was a nice experience to remember.
In the village, then, for lovers of good food, there are taverns serving local cuisine.

Insomma, Corciano è molto piccola ma tutta da scoprire: i suoi vicoletti medievali, le sue porte di mattoncini, le sue casette in pietra, le sue minuscole ma curatissime chiese, tutto concorrerà a farvi innamorare di questo piccolo gioiello umbro!

In short, Corciano is very small, but thanks to its narrow streets, its stone houses, its tiny but immaculate churches, it is absolutely lovely!
